-------------------------------------------------------------------------DIN was formed to set an example of honest and upright handling of nation-wide
electronic confidential patient data by doctors working together in the UK.
Our endeavours are aimed toward helping the clinician gain the benefits of
central analysis of aggregated patient data without compromising the
stringent ethical rules by which we all must abide.
DIN adheres to the rules of confidentiality laid down by the General
Medical Council in its publication Duties of a Doctor.
We believe that this approach contrasts with that of the NHS Integrated Clinical Records Service
where confidential patient information may be put at the disposal of managers and clinicians
with no clinical 'need to know' and without the knowledge or consent of either the patient or their GP.
GP's who need an independent check on their practice's perfomance under the New Contract can,
provided they are DIN data donors, obtain exact reports for their practice free of charge.
These reports are calculated on-line using the Government's latest available criteria.
This management information is calculated in a way which never compromises the identity or
privacy of any patient on the DIN database, where all records are anonymised.
This contrasts with the methods employed by the Department of Health in its use of confidential
clinical records where we believe confidentiality remains at risk.
